Ginger the Dachshund is just one of many dogs in our area that has been recently diagnosed with Leptospirosis. Lepto is transmitted by the urine of wildlife such as foxes, squirrels, and raccoons. The symptoms are usually fever, decreased appetite and vomiting, but can progress to kidney and liver failure. It is also a zoonotic disease which means that it can be transferred to people. The disease is treatable with IV therapy and antibiotics if it is caught early enough before severe organ damage.Without treatment, leptospirosis can lead to kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure, and even death. This vaccine is less than $20 and is recommended for all dogs in our area! Please call our office if you have any questions or would like to be sure your dog has been vaccinated (303)980-4444
